Feeling Lazy? It’s Because You’re Not Dreaming Enough
Start turning imagination into clarity and action
6-min read
Procrastinating is the biggest productivity blocker there is. And everyone, even the most efficient person in the world, struggles with it.
Most people think they are just lazy and say, “that’s just how I am.” But the top 1% of productive people didn’t just figure out a magic tool or become 100% disciplined.
Discipline and willpower come from dreaming.
It’s not a talent or trait you were born with. Being productive, disciplined, or having the willpower, whatever you might call it, comes from knowing where you’re heading.
Why introverts struggle with procrastination
You suppress your potential
How to add dreaming to your daily life
Why introverts struggle with procrastination
Most people procrastinate and prefer to watch TV. Because it numbs their brain, they don’t have to think about their mediocre life, the things they haven’t achieved, and how far they are from a happy and successful life.
If that’s you, don’t worry. Reading this is already a step in the right direction.
Introverts don’t just procrastinate. They overthink. Constantly.
They overanalyze the past, obsess over the future, and all in between. They research every detail of a decision and then can’t decide because they are overwhelmed by all the options.
And with today’s endless options online, it’s only getting harder.
This over-analyzing keeps you stuck, as you become paralyzed and fail to take action.
Every analysis, every bit of research, and overthinking is a form of procrastination.
Introverts can focus deeply. That’s a strength.
But when all your focus goes into planning, preparing, and overthinking instead of taking action. You stay stuck.
Part of it comes from fear. Of failing, succeeding, or leaving your comfort zone.
But the bigger part is (and that’s what we’re gonna talk about now): You don’t have a clear goal.
Gaining this clarity will resolve a lot of the overthinking because you set clear intentions first, and then you can decide quickly on what’s supporting you on the path to getting there.
Do you know where you’re going?
Answer this question honestly: Do you know where you are going?
in life?
at your job?
in your relationship?
with your hobbies?
And please don’t say, “I’m waiting for retirement, and then I’m free to do whatever.”
Waiting to live life is wasting 30 or 40 years of your time, better health, and energy. And let’s be real: retirement isn’t guaranteed, and neither is the freedom to do what you want by then.
Figuring out your why (goal, vision, or whatever you want to call it) in life is like a compass showing you the way.
This clarity helps you set clear boundaries and priorities. Your research and overthinking get channeled toward one path, and you’ll find it easier to decide.
Don’t suppress your potential
You are a sports car and don’t know your potential.
You’re driving at the speed of 50 km/h (30 mph), living a mediocre life. Worse, if you don’t know where you’re going, you’re going to drive in circles.
Numbing your life and overthinking everything isn’t just hurting your productivity, but it’s also suppressing your potential.
You are unique. You are a unique sports car. So why settle for mediocrity?
As kids, we dreamed big. We were princesses, doctors, astronauts, singers… But growing up, we forget and unlearn to imagine other realities.
We are being “realistic.” Life hits. Money or health problems come.
We lose the clarity and imagination of what we want to do in life. We trade it for stability.
We are suppressing our potential to make enough money to have an okay life, a car and a house to show off. We work 8 hours a day to be too exhausted afterward to enjoy our free time (which we probably use to do household chores, take care of kids, parents, or things like our car).
Doesn’t that sound like a dream? (asking sarcastically)
Start dreaming daily
The first step of every productivity journey (and the 1st module of my online course) is finding your why and then reminding yourself every day.
I want you to be a kid full of imagination and creativity again.
Don’t listen to the grown-ups saying, “You need to be realistic and have a steady job.”
Every morning before I go to work, I take the time to dream about my future self achieving my big goals, living in my dream house with my dream family, and helping millions of people with my work.
Dream limitless.
If it feels hard to dream big, start by thinking about what you don’t want.
If you forget your dreams easily, write them down and reread them each day before visualizing.
Your Power Action Step Today
Find a quiet 5 minutes.
Close your eyes.
Visualize yourself achieving the dreams you dreamed of as a kid. Imagine yourself in your dream home with your favorite people.
Imagine yourself doing your dream projects.
Then write it down, so you don’t forget.
Use it tomorrow and the day after. Visualize it again. Repeat.
What to do next
Dreaming alone won’t get you there. That’s the reality of life. (We’re grownups; we need to be realistic, too).
If you need help with letting go of limiting beliefs, turning on your imagination, and then finding the next action steps to get there, book a free 30-minute introduction session with me, and let’s talk about how I can help you as a mentor.
For the Quietly Curious
I’m currently taking the time to work on my Quiet Power Academy, launching in a few weeks, and it’s motivating to think of everyone I’m going to help with it.
“What’s the one thing I can do such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?” This question is from the book “The One Thing” and it got me thinking yesterday. I’m thinking about using it as an inspiration for my daily and weekly planning.
I love learning about AI and what I can do with it. It’s not about replacing my creative work or copy-pasting for my Academy, but about improving my skills, knowledge, and showing me new perspectives.
